Recently in Germany at the SPS IPC Drives show Schneider Electric showed off their new innovative controls showcasing a motion controller, general purpose controllers, a servo drive, a programmable automation controller as well as the improved version of Schneider Electrics SoMachine software (process expert software) that merges energy management and Scada / PLC functions.
Schneider Electric released several general-purpose controllers together called Modicon M2X range, They are an expansion of the Machine Struxure brand but are said to be as much as ten times quicker than other standard systems. The three types of new controllers are:

Festo Pneumatics > Festo actuators bring massive energy savings in St. Petersburg
Festo Pneumatic automation technology is helping St. Petersburg, the largest country in the world with their drinking water, by providing them with energy efficient solutions for their new water treatment plants.
St. Petersburg has a population of more than a million invited Festo to help implement a programme to reduce production cost of drinking water for its southern areas.

Festo Pneumatics > Helps create an innovative automated tennis ball tester.
Mecmesin a specialist in testing machines was asked to create a cost effective way to automatically test tennis balls . Mecmesin turned to Festo for help as they had supplied them pneumatic parts in the past for example their Festo linear axes and Festo pneumatic grippers as well as a PLC based system.
Festo needed to help Mecmesin to create a robust test system that could take various materials and different sized tennis balls. It also needs to reliably load and unload tennis balls into the machine. The machine would also need to be checked remotely and be able to accept new tests in the future, without needing to be redesigned.
