Festo Grippers > The new pneumatic grippers that have 40% more force.

Festo pneumatics have just released some compact pneumatically operated grippers that have the ability to have up to 40% more force than any released before.

Festo DHxS grippers consist of: parallel, three-point, radial and angular models, they come with a selection of sizes and stroke lengths.

All of the Festo grippers are available with double- acting piston drives, Festo pneumatics  optional spring-assisted safety mechanism makes sure that the jaws continue to keep their position if the pneumatic pressure is lost, therefore there is no need for complicated, expensive extra safety  circuits.

The grippers are also effectively overload proof. An integrated flow restrictor works as a safety buffer, therefore protecting the grippers against overloading during high-speed movements of jaws.

The gripping force of the parallel versions has been increased by using a oval piston instead of two smaller pistons. This therefore produces about 40% more gripping force  allowing machine builders to use more compact , lighter grippers. The Festo DHXS parallel grippers come in six different sizes and they can come with piston diameters from 6-35mm and jaw strokes from 2-12.5mm. The biggest model can make up to 970N of force.

The Festo parallel and three-point grippers use a T-slot guidance system as well as a cam mechanism to accommodate higher torque moments. The three-point grippers can accommodate 280% more torque than models before. Festo’s new gripper jaw’s repeatability positioning accuracy is 20µm, compared to the 40µm before.
